Feasts with bulls prohibited in Veracruz, Mexico

The congress of the Mexican state of Veracruz decided unanimously to prohibit several cruel feasts with bulls: vaquilladas, pamplonadas and embalses, including the cruel feast Embalse de Toro de Tlacotalpan.The organization Movimiento Consciencia started an initiative, together with other organizations, to achieve the prohibition of events with bulls. Movimiento Consciencia is a good partner of CAS International. It is also part of the International Network against Bullfighting.

The event with bulls Embalse de Tlacotalpan is very controversial. Every year 6 bulls were abused in this municipality: sometimes the animals were forced to drink alcohol and to swim in a river, tied to boats. When the bulls came back to land they were maltreated by the crowd. CAS International has already been campaigning for more than 10 years against this event with bulls. Several times we have shared protests through our website and social media to increase international pressure  and to demand the end of the Embalse de Tlacotalpan. For years, the authorities have been promising that they will monitor the event so that the bulls are not being maltreated. But every year organizations tell us that the bulls were abused. It is very good news that this event with bulls has been abolished now!

Other successes
Movimiento Consciencia achieved, with support of CAS International and other organizations, that the municipality of Tzintzuntzan prohibited bullfighting in 2016. In December 2015 it also achieved the prohibition of the entrance of children to bullfighs in the entire state of Veracruz, also with the support of CAS and other organizations.
