A bullfight is a form of popular amusement in which six bulls, in order of succession, are stabbed with sharp instruments to make them fight with a bullfighter. A bullfight with one bull takes 20 minutes on average. When the bull has become too weak to 'fight' it is slain. The most well known type of bullfighting is the Spanish one, but there are various forms of bullfighting in the bullfighting countries.
Bullfights take place in eight countries: Spain, France, Portugal, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela.
It is estimated that worldwide more than 180,000 bulls, cows and calves are abused and slain during bullfights and similar events every year. Also, many horses are victims of bullfighting. Often it happens that horses get injured during these events, sometimes so severe that they cannot be saved.
