On a morning, bull Manuel was brought, together with cow Ruth, to the sanctuary close to Madrid. It meant the start of their new lives, free of fear and suffering.

Manuel was a young fighting bull. Had he grown up in the bullfighting sector, he could have been used as ‘practice material’ in a bullfighting school to learn minors how to bullfight. But as a young bull of one to two years old he could have been used to entertain people during a feast with animals as well. There, he would have been tortured and, depending on the type of feast, killed in the most cruel way.

Another option would have been the bullfight, at an age of 3 to 4 years old. And in case he would never have accomplished the expectations of the breeder, he would have been sent to the slaughterhouse. This happens to half of the fighting bulls that are born on breeding farms.
