On Tuesday July 3, CAS international attended the première of the documentary ‘Encierro’, a documentary by Olivier van de Zee about the running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain. In the documentary participants of the running of the bulls talk about their experiences and their reasons to join the run. According to Marius Kolff, director of CAS, ‘Encierro’ is a nice documentary wherein human attendees have all the opportunity to speak, yet the suffering of the bulls is not discussed.
Annually, between July 7 and 14, the running of the bulls takes place in Pamplona. Every day six bulls run through the streets of Pamplona to the bullring where they are killed during bullfights later on the day. In total, 48 bulls are killed during the festivities of San Fermin. It is regrettable that a documentary that focuses on the running of the bulls, does not show anything about these controversial aspects.
After the documentary, Marius Kolff spoke to the audience about the suffering of the animals during the running of the bulls and bullfights in Pamplona. We would like to thank cinema Het Ketelhuis for their hospitality.
