Barcelona is animal defender of 2014Every year, in the Colombian city Medellín an award is given for Defenzoor del año (best animal defender) by our sister organization Defenzoores, supported by CAS International. This year the city of Barcelona received the prize, since the Catalan capital is an example for the rest of Spain regarding animal rights and animal welfare.

CAS protests against Toro de la Vega in Madrid On Saturday 13th of September, CAS International protested in the Spanish capital of Madrid against the cruel event el Toro de la Vega.
Every year in September a bull is killed by hundreds of men on horses and by feet, stabbed to death with lances. This year bull Elegido (which means ‘the chosen one’) is the victim of el Toro de la Vega.

And again two new anti-bullfighting municipalitiesThe Spanish municipalities of Algaida and Capdepera (Mallorca) have declared themselves as anti-bullfighting municipalities. Five municipalities have declared themselves against bullfighting on the Spanish Island last summer. This has been achieved thanks to the campaign ‘Mallorca Sin Sangre’ (Mallorca without Blood).

First voting on subsidies to bullfighting in European CommitteeThe Committee of Environment, Public Health and Food Safety has voted to put an end to the European subsidies to bullfighting. The Dutch member of the European Parliament Bas Eickhout, member of the green party GroenLinks, had proposed the amendment. Finally, it has been adopted with 29 votes in favor and 11 against it.
