#LoveSpainHateBullfights: hand over of petition to Spanish EmbassyFriday, September 6th 2013
Together with WSPA, CAS collected thousands of signatures against the declaration of bullfighting as Cultural Heritage in Spain. The petition was handed over to a representative of the ambassador during a cultural event in front of the Spanish Embassy in The Hague. Many people and volunteers gathered with us for this important moment. The representative of the ambassador promised us that the ambassador will send the tens of thousands of signatures together with the corresponding text to the relevant authorities in Madrid.
To demonstrate that we love Spain and the Spanish culture, but not bullfighting, the gathering featured flamenco music; four 'bulls' danced a lamentation, surrounded by flamenco dancers. This event took place on September 4 simultaneously in several European and Latin American capitals, as well as in Australia.
On September 11 in Madrid, Marius Kolff, director of CAS, will present a similar request to the Cultural Committee of the Spanish Parliament. The request is signed by 125 sister organisations from our Network, and the Dutch Animal Coalition (CDON), as well as from many other influentials, like 140 prominent scholars, and organisations which aim at social welfare. On September 19, approximately, the matter is put to the vote by the Spanish Parliament.
