CAS visits BerlinThursday, September 5th 2013
Marius Kolff (CAS) visiting Undine Kurth with Martina Szyszka (Germany) y Alessandro Zara (Spain)
In recent years, CAS has done a lot of work to draw Germany into our struggle against bullfighting. It has not been an easy task. The German organization for animal protection did not consider bullfighting important enough to include it in their campaigns. Since two years, the German Animal Party (Deutsche Tierschutzpartei) had an open attitude towards the fight against bullfighting, yet it was too small and is not being part of Parliament. At this moment the German green party (Fraktion Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) is interested in joining us in our struggle! With two colleagues of sister organizations from Germany and Spain, Marius Kolff visited parliamentarian Undine Kurth. She promised us that the green party will do everything in its power to put bullfighting on the political agenda of the Bundestag, as was recently done in the Netherlands.
In July the Dutch representatives voted unanimously in favour of a motion against the subsidies from the European Union which are being used in the bullfighting sector, which was formulated by the party for the animals. Germany intends to follow this good example. After the German elections Marius Kolff will continue the conversations with the German green party to figure out how we can achieve the same in Germany. We are very hopeful!
